Following on from the addition of Portrait mode only three weeks ago, mood.camera has just pushed an update that allows you to control the dynamic range of your iPhone photos.
Like Halide’s “process-zero”, mood.camera’s new Dynamic Range control is designed to give your photos a more filmic look. The difference here, however, is that mood.camera still retains some of the benefits of the ProRAW format, such as reduced noise and better low-light performance. mood.camera offers more flexibility too, with a wider range of options from High, Medium, Low and Zero. There’s also an “Extended” option that increases the dynamic range for those particularly challenging lighting scenarios.
You can see the dramatic difference it can make to a photo in the video clip below:
The developer, Alex Fox, shared his motivation for adding the feature so quickly, “My app is focused on simplicity, so adding new features is always a tough call. But after seeing the excitement around Halide’s “process-zero”, I thought I’d try it out with my beta testers. It had a great response so decided to include it in the next update.”
mood.camera is available on the AppStore, with a free 7-day trial, no payment details required. After the free trial you can continue using the app with “random” only mode, or unlock full access via a one-off £14.99 membership or £1.99 per month subscription.
One thing to note is that the dynamic range control is only available on devices that support ProRAW. However, you can still take amazing filmic photos with “non-pro” iPhones.
